Location

A Location (also known as a Place) is an abstraction allowing policies to be applied to groups of equipment. Users can be granted roles on locations just as they can on equipment and labs, and location policies are applied to all equipment present in a given location. Usually UW CORAL locations are meant to represent physical locations, but that is not always the case. Please note that there is no fixed relationship between Locations and Equipment Areas, though the latter can specify a location if desired.

The fields in the Location resource are as follows:

Name

ID
The numeric ID of this location, assigned when it is created.
Name
The name of this location as displayed to users.
Lab
The lab to which this location belongs.
Parent
The parent of this location in the hierarchy, if any.
Description
A free-form description.
Building
The building containing this location. Currently unused.

Operation

Capacity
The notional number of users who can reserve, or use, this location at once.
Opening Time
If this location has a different opening time from the lab as a whole, it can be entered here.
Closing Time
If this location has a different closing time from the lab as a whole, it can be entered here.
Kiosk reset URL
The interlock URL of the scan-in kiosk for this location. This allows the scan-in station to be reset when a user logs in with a UW NetID (since a page running in a web browser cannot close the browser).
Disable equipment after duration (min)
If set, equipment sessions lasting longer than this will be automatically terminated. Use with caution.

Flags

Users can log in to location
Controls whether users can scan or log themselves into this location.
Users can reserve location
If checked, this location will be selectable on the Location>Reservations calendar and users can create reservations there.
Require separate orientation
If checked, users without the orientation role on this location will not be able to reserve, scan in, or enable equipment in this location, regardless of their orientation status in the facility as a whole.
Require separate orientation
If checked, users without the secondary_orientation role on this location will not be able to reserve, scan in, or enable equipment in this location, regardless of their orientation status in the facility as a whole.
Cap occupancy at login
If checked, users will be unable to scan into this location when the number of users "in" exceeds the limit.
Cap occupancy at reservation
If checked, users will be unable to reserve this location when the number of users with simultaneous reservations exceeds this limit. If unchecked, arbitrarily many users will be able to reserve at the same time, but the calendar will indicate over-capacity periods in a different color.
Location hours are Lab Hours
If checked, location sessions in this location are considered "lab hours" for statistics purposes.
Log out users overnight
If checked, all equipment will be automatically disabled in the middle of the night. Use with caution.
Reservation Granularity
The number of minutes to be shown in a single segment of the reservation calendar. Valid values are integer divisors of 60 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, and 60). The use of other values may result in unpredictable behavior.
