User Answers

The last user made a mess. How can I see who used the tool before me?

Open the Equipment tab, select the desired instrument in the tool tree, and select the History sub-tab. Previous enable sessions should appear in brown. Note that if someone's session is still active, it will not appear in the history, but their name will appear next to the instrument name in the tool tree.

I received an email containing my UW NetID: it is UW12345678. But I don't know what my password is!

The email referred to does not contain the NetID, but only a tracking number. Read the email carefully, and you will see instructions that, if followed, will allow you to choose a NetID and create a password.

Where can I see the details of my billing?

Visit https://www.coral.washington.edu/billing/invoices.cgi?mode=mine and log in with your UW NetID. Arrange the month selectors to indicate the month for which you would like to see invoices, and press Search.

The invoices listed will be all those for which you are listed as a charged "member", or that have charges on a project or account for which you are listed as PI.

UW accounts are more transparent than external accounts: anyone with a UW NetID can see anyone's charges to a UW budget number. Select search by budget number and enter the budget number of your choice. All invoices pertaining to the given budget number will be listed.

How can I change my PI or my budget number?

To change your budget number, use the My Profile and click the My Budgets button at the bottom of the page.

Changing your PI is more difficult. If you need to change your PI, return to the registration site (linked from the webite of the lab in question), press Start Over, and re-register with your new PI.

I need to reserve an instrument for a long period of time, but the calendar widget won't let me!

On the calendar, click once to make a reservation of the default length. Then double-click the reservation to open its properties. Click in the blank marked Stop and use the popup calendar to choose the end time. Be aure to close the popup calendar when you are done using it. When you save the properties, the reservation will be updated on the calendar.

I'm going through registration, and I just got my UW NetID. When I go back to complete my registration, will I have to start over again?

No. If you need to go back to complete your registration, log into the registration site using the Existing Guest Login option, with the same login and password you used initially. (You can ask it to send you your password, if you've forgotten it.) Once you begin using Coral, you will use your UW NetID and password.

Lab Management Answers

Does every user really need to be assigned a UW NetID?

No. Every local user must have a UW NetID, because CORAL uses NetID authentication; there is no way around it. Remote/foundry users, however, only need a UW NetID if they are to retrieve their invoices online or if they will use the M/Q drive to send or receive data files (patterns or images).

If a remote user does not want to go through the hassle of getting a UW NetID, it is highly recommended that they be assigned a fake NetID ending in _remote, e.g., jsmith_remote, since there are no personal NetIDs ending in _remote.

Does the registration system automatically provide a UW NetID for industrial users?

No. In order for a non-UW-affiliated person to get a NetID, two things must happen: a UW employee must sponsor them to make them eligible; and then they must choose a NetID and agree to the terms. It is not possible for the registration system either to sponsor or to agree to terms. Thus, the lab management of the first lab must manually sponsor users as part of the registration process; and the users must manually choose a NetID and agree to terms.

I have users whose work is protected by an NDA. How does Coral keep their identity secret?

All "industrial" projects and accounts are created by default using a code number: for the WNF lab, for example, the accounts start from WNF0001. The organization and description fields are used to provide the real company name, so that we can look up a company by name. Lab management (of any lab) has access to this information, but users do not.

I have users that are so secret, I can't let the other labs' management know about them. How can I keep their information to myself?

CORAL is designed to share user information between labs. As such, it does not have the ability to make member, project and account details available to one lab while keeping them secret from another lab. If it is important that the management of other labs not be able to see who your users are, you should instruct them to lie when registering. This will, of course, make it impossible for CORAL to generate sensible invoices, so you may have to do your own billing; at very least you will have to transcribe the invoices for these super-secret users.
