UW CORAL Web Front End - Definitions
    Hazard
Hazards in UW CORAL codify the requirements to work in a
particular lab or location or with a particular piece of
equipment. Hazards are broken into two different types:
Global, which are defined on a site-wide basis,
and Specific, which can be created on demand to
satisfy the needs of an individual lab, location or
      instrument.
    Global Hazards

The selector for global hazards simply lists all the hazards
by name. Global hazards have very few properties:

      - Name

      - The name of the hazard. This is usually, though not
always, the same as the name of the corresponding EH&S
	training course.

      - Description

      - Additional information about this hazard, if any is required.

      - Instructions

      - How a user could gain a role on this hazard. Generally
this refers users to the EH&S web site.

      - Ephemeral

      - In the past we have had hazards whose qualification only
lasted for a single day, and for these there are special
reservation rules. No current hazards should be marked
	"ephemeral".

    Specific Hazards
The selector for specific hazards requires that the user enter
the lab first, and optionally location or instrument name,
before a specific hazard can be selected.
Specific hazards are very similar but have a few more
      properties:

      - ID

      - The identifier name of this specific hazard, assigned by
the system when it is created.

      - Name

      - The human-readable name of the hazard. You can set this to
whatever you like. Don't give two hazards similar names or
	you will inevitably become confused.

      - Severity

      - This field takes one of three
	values, optional, procedure
or safety depending on how important this hazard is
to equipment or locations that require it. Hazards with
severity safety act like global hazards: failure to
hold a required safety hazard is a hard stop for any user,
even staff. Hazards with procedure severity do not
restrict staff but only ordinary users. Hazards with
optional severity do not impose any restrictions but may be
applied to instruments or locations for bookkeeping purposes.

      - Description

      - A written description of this hazard, if it is needed.

      - Instructions

      - How to qualify for this hazard. Generally, this text
includes a link to a quiz that grants the hazard role.

      - Lab

      - The lab in which this specific hazard is defined.

      - Location

      - The location this hazard applies to. Note that setting the
location here does not make entry into the location
or use of equipment in that location require users to hold
any roles on this hazard; it merely allows selectors to
provide a shorter list of possible hazards to choose from.

      - Equipment Area

      - The equipment area this hazard applies to. As above,
setting an equipment area here does not make the equipment in
	that area require the hazard.

      - Instrument

      - The equipment this hazard applies to. As above,
setting an instrument here does not make the instrument
	require the hazard.
